As a clinical chaplain, I have spent the past 10 years in the presence of individuals, caregivers, families and medical staff who are navigating the existential questions, grief and hope that often accompany important life transitions or loss. I have also been invited to assist with planning and performing both weddings and funerals, where I witness the power of creating sacred space where we can tell our stories of love and loss. I felt often in my own life a need for more sacred spaces like these, to honor the many stories of love and loss I carry but are hard to name, such as heartbreak, identity & existential crisis, becoming a mother, divorce, and chronic debilitating health issues. My hope is to be able to provide for others what I wish I had- a guide and a community to help me name and process the complexity of my experiences and honor these important new beginnings and endings through meaningful ritual.

Choosing Rev. Messam as our officiant was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding day. Not only was Rev. Messam extremely professional, she was also a great communicator. She listened to our story and accommodated our preferences to create a ceremony that felt truly personal and meaningful. We cannot recommend her enough!
